Bert van Marwijk resigns as Netherlands coach

Van Marwijk handed his resignation after the disastrous performance of the Dutch in the Euro 2012. Last 2 years he was the man behind Netherlands that guided them to second place, when they lost to Spain in the final of the World Cup in extra-time. His contract was to expire in 2016, but he said that even though he's unsure about his resignation, he thinks it can be of benefit to the team. The Dutch FA responded with a declaration were it thanked Van Marwijk for all his work, but it's the right decision. Netherlands did not grab a point in this campaign, which is the opposite of what they have done 2 years ago, were they took all the 9 points in the group stage. He took over in 2008 after Marco van Basten, who also did not have a good campaign that year. Netherlands first competitive match is against Turkey.
