Two years ago, 43 year old Abba Abacha son of Nigeria's former military head of state Late Gen. Sani Abacha, Abba Abacha faced trial in Switzerland, but because he was unable to attend due to his inability to get a visa, the court convicted him in absentia and sentenced him to two years imprisonment and confisticated his assets...Abba appealed, and due to the irregularities and his visa issue the Swiss Federal Tribunal annulled his sentence and ordered a retrial.
Abba Abacha - Abacha's son in the eye of the storm
Sani Abacha took over power in  1993. Until his death in 1998, he siphoned off an estimated $2 billion from the country’s central bank, including $700 million that was deposited in Swiss ban
Now as the retrial approaches... starting July 4 again Abba Abacha will be arraigned on charges of participation in a criminal organisation that raided public funds, his lawyer, Christian Luescher announced on Friday.
Though, Abba’s lawyer told Swiss news agency ATS that his client wanted to come to Geneva to attend the trial...will he be able to obtain a visa this time?
The clock is ticking.entence annulled and a retrial.
If he is unable to get a visa this time, the new trial will be delayed.
