31 Day Challenge: Day 30 Inspired by a Tutorial

Does anybody else watch The Client List? It's actually a horrible show, but I haven't stopped watching it. It's supposed to be about a masseuse from Beau-frickin-mont whose husband runs away, leaving her with the kids and a pile of debt. She does what apparently all masseurs do when the going gets tough - starts dressing extra slutty and giving "happy endings!" These people have ridiculously stereotypical southern accents and strange close-minded feuds with salon-shop bitches. If you're incredibly bored and want to see Jennifer Love Hewitt's giant boobs on display, you should catch up on this Lifetime gem.

I love Japanese cherry blossoms! I actually had a framed Van Gogh poster of them in college. It now resides in my sister's apartment along with all of my other furnishings. Today's challenge is inspired by a tutorial. I found this one about how to do cherry blossom nails.

I used Ulta Mint Condition as the base and just random black, white, and pink polish - just use what you have!

31 Day Challenge: Day 29 Inspired by the Supernatural

Almost finished with this challenge! I'm so ready to do some summery designs! I'm thinking sunflowers...

Today's challenge is inspired by the supernatural. Being a lover of terrifying show and gorgeous men, I'm a huge Supernatural fan! But if there's anything I've learned from that show, it's not to fuck around with the supernatural. So instead of drawing some crazy symbols on my nails and getting possessed by a demon, I'm going with a more tame version - Goosebumps! I was never allowed to read these books when I was little (mostly because my parents were hardasses back then. They have since become doe-eyed, sappy, rule-less parental units with my siblings). So I actually know nothing about them other than I'm sure I would have loved them 10 years ago. Maybe now? Anyways, at some point in time, I remember seeing a friend of mine reading one of these books with an awesome holographic cover. I tried to find a picture, but the internet failed me. So you'll have to pretend with this one.

Since I still really liked the holographic idea, I started with a base coat of Sally Hansen Crystal Ball.

I wanted to add a little more pizzazz to this, so I put on a layer of a glow-in-the-dark polish. I'm not sure if you've tried to take a picture in the dark lately, but it's harder than it looks. Excuse the blur.

Finally, I drew on the green ooze with Nicole by OPI One Time Lime.

And here they are in the dark!

I'm going out to a couple bars tonight, so I'm looking forward to a bunch of questions about why I have terrifying, oozey, glowing nails.

31 Day Challenge: Day 28 Inspired by a Flag

Movie/TV update: I watched W./E. today because I thought it was going to be a tragic yet cute love story. It was tragic, alright. The cute part not so much. I suggest this if you really want to hate yourself and others for a while. To make myself feel better, I watched a bunch of Merlin again (he's so cute!) and the ever-ridiculous bro-on-bro love of Franklin and Bash. I feel like I'm going to end up watching a lot of BBC America this summer. What happened to all the shows I liked last summer? Oh yeah, they were cancelled.

For today's challenge, I was supposed to be inspired by a flag. I thought of the obvious American flag, and then branched out a little with the flags of Ireland, Italy, France, and Germany (all places of heritage for me) but have you seen their flags? They're super boring and just stripes. Finally, a brilliant idea hit me -  the 2012 Olympic flag! I'm super pumped for the Olympics this summer. AND they have a pretty cute flag!

I'm not sure why the 2's look different. The second one looks a bit ridiculous. I made it look worse, of course..

Alrighty, I started off with a base of a pretty blue from Ulta and then used a striping brush to draw on the white bits.

I used another striping brush to do the red. This was a little tough, since the brush was kind of a fatty, but I think it turned out pretty well anyway.

Next, I used a brush-tipped marker to draw on the outline of the numbers.

Then I filled in the numbers and fleshed out the outline a little. Alllmost done!

Then I used the markers again to draw the Olympic rings. These were microscopic and tough to draw, but decent-looking in the end.

I mutilated that second 2. I really considered just making it like the first one... but I gave it a shot. Oh well. Te gusta? I actually really like these!

31 Day Challenge: Day 27 Inspired by Artwork

I'm feeling extra artsy today! I think it's because I'm watching the Tony Awards from last night. Sadly, my life is not a musical. But I have a hunch that if I burst into song a little more often it might catch on. I really need to go see more musicals (they come to Houston, but no one ever wants to go with me...) so I can beef up my on-the-fly song writing.

Today's challenge is inspired by Artwork. A few weeks ago, I watched a Doctor Who episode where they go back in time and hang out with Vincent Van Gogh. It was actually a heartbreaking episode and it solidified my love of Van Gogh's work. For today's challenge I picked one of his the most famous paintings - The Starry Night. His work is simple, yet stunning. Here's my shot at it.

I started off with a dark blue base coat. This was probably a little bit darker that it should have been. You'd think with all of the colors I own I'd have something a little closer...

From there, I blobbed on white paint as the foundation of the stars and clouds.

Then I layered on each of the colors.. I won't take you through all of them.

I took pictures without a top coat just in case I ruined it all. I actually kind of like it without the top coat..

With a topcoat. I wish I had room to put all the little buildings on here. Alas, my nails are not that large.

I tried to make the big star a little bigger on my thumb. Second major thing I would have changed is the color orange I used. Too dark/reddish.

31 Day Challenge: Day 26 Inspired by a Pattern

Have you guys watched Merlin? I just started, and this show is adorable. I love BBC shows. And British people. *sigh*

When I was little, pretty much everything I owned was Lisa Frank - pencils, erasers, folders, notebooks - everything was brightly colored, sparkly, and had a slight cheetah vibe. For today's challenge, I was inspired by some of my old Lisa Frank stuff. I searched for images online and found these that I distinctly remember having.

I wish Lisa Frank would make a comeback. I feel like it's way cooler than whatever the kids now have. Anyways, I'm rockin' some sweet nails, which will hopefully bring back this forgotten treasure.

I started off with a layer of the Sally Hansen Crystal Ball holo. The colors I wanted to use are a little see-through, so I figured a layer of this stuff would make them pop! After it dried, I painted diagonal stripes of each color (Pixel Pretty, Byte, Hi-Def, and Lite). They're a little messy, but that doesn't matter too much. For the accent nail I used a leftover sticker.

Once everything was dry, I added a layer of Northern Lights for a bit of sparkle and stamped on the cheetah print.

I felt like it needed a little more sparkle, so I added another layer of Northern Lights,
