USA put 3 past Antigua & Barbuda

USA may have put 3 goals past Antigua & Barbuda, but for the American fans it was considered as a poor result, as they expected more goals in this World Cup Qualifying opener game. The American had over 70% of possession and 19 shots, but they struggled to score goals from open play, as the goals came from 2 rebounds and the other one from a penalty. Landon Donovan, after netting 3 past Scotland, did not shoot an easy chance but opted to pass to Clint Dempsey, who however felt to score. Donovan looked in this game that he did not want to shoot, as he preferred passes rather than shots in this match. Some fans were saying that Donovan should be more selfish in certain situations, and maybe that is one of his weaknesses. In fact the problem with USA in this match was that the players were too unselfish. Ironic, eh?

After the match, during an interview, Donovan admitted that he should have been more selfish in the game. He said that he thinks that the players were doing too many passes before trying their luck, especially in the first half. Jurgen Klinsmann's half time talk was the same as he told the players to shoot the ball when they have an open chance and don't try to pass the ball into the goal. Dempsey however still believed that the Americans played well especially when one sees how dominant they were. He said that the players must be wary, as there are still tougher oppositions left to play against.
