A Bride in the Bargain Review
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I literally read it for SEVEN HOURS and didn't sleep until 5am this morning trying to finish it. This book was so cute! I just love it! It did not have the period language that I was looking for, however, that was alright. The author's description of Joe Denton was enough to make me fall in love with him as well.
SPOILER ALERT: In this book, it's funny how Joe Denton kept proposing to Anna Ivey over and over and she kept turning him down. I can't even remember how many proposals there were. At first, it was a convenient proposal to save Joe's land. Towards the end, his proposals became genuine, but of course Anna was skeptical. At some point it got frustrating but it was amazing anyway. Towards the end, Anna was told she had tuberculosis and if she didn't leave Seattle, she wasn't going to survive. I love this book because it shows that even though Joe valued his land more than anything in the beginning, when he found true love, he followed it everywhere, even if it meant selling his land. Of course in the end they ended up going back because Anna had a wrong diagnosis (yey!). Overall, this book is a must-read!!! :)
Fun Fact: The front cover is actually the author's daughter! :)
Memorable quote: "Are You God, Miss Ivey?" --Doc Maynard
I love this quote because it defines the reason why Anna refuses to marry anyone. She felt that anyone that she loved ended up dying. When Joe got in a lumberjack accident, she thought it was her fault as well. It was then that Doc Maynard questioned if she was God, because if she was, then she must have control of everything, and therefore, everything must be her fault. Turns out, she wasn't (lol).
