Dead Until Dark - Sookie Stackhouse Book 1 Review

Sookie: "You told those vampires that I belonged to you."
Bill: "Yes."
Sookie: "What exactly did that mean?"
Bill: "That means that if they try to feed on you, I'll kill them. It means you are my human."

Hot and Interesting!

The first book of the Sookie Stackhouse series was truly not what I expected. I was expecting a book for young adults, maybe teens and early teens. What I discovered halfway through the book was otherwise. Now, I do not watch the T.V. show created for it so I guess that is why I did not expect the book. Basically, halfway through, the sex started and everything started taking a turn. There were vampires, Sookie as a mind-reader, murderers, even shape-shifters. At one point, I thought there was going to be werewolves as well. Thankfully, there wasn't. But that's not to say there won't be in future books. I am yet to buy the second book so I will probably wait a long time to do that.

I like that the characters were unpredictable in this first book. It was also interesting that Sookie was drinking vampire blood, which was really out of the ordinary. It was really interesting to find the changes in her appearance and strength when she drinks. Deep inside, I feel like she would turn over sooner or later. That would be a really interesting twist wouldn't it? Especially since all the vampire stories these days keep the woman human and refuses to turn over to the other side :)
