This book started slow for me. Actually, the first book Awakening really didn't interest me much, but I kept reading anyway.
The Awakening
Stefan tried his hardest to avoid Elena. Well, we all know that was impossible. I know some people like the TV show better, but really, the show and the book are different in many ways - just like how Katherine and Elena were so different the way Stefan saw it in the book.
I love the tortured look in Stefan that we didn't see so much in the TV show. I love how the book is able to explain everything in detail and I just love having the picture left in my imagination. Since Elena is blonde in the book, I was able to separate her somehow from Elena in the show.
Finally, I love the ending. It was pretty intense...and stupidly risky. Seriously, why are main characters always bordering dumb?
The Struggle
This Damon is not as charming as Damon is in the show. But I love them both :) Damon in the book is much more cruel than in the TV show.
Other than that, this second book is SO INTENSE!!!! There were cute parts, but mostly, Damon was terrorizing Elena and Stefan. He just always wants what Stefan has and even until the end of the book, they fight til the end. That is definitely different than the TV show.
And the ending, oh my gosh. The TV show has been going for THREE seasons and it is completely different from the book. The ending of this second book is completely unexpected. I won't spoil it but if you've read the book, you know what I'm talking about. It's intense, and it just makes me want to read the next one already!
You want a hint? Well, the first hint is that Katherine is really dead. The second is that something happens that breaks Stefan's vampire heart..maybe for good?
